The Biodiversity Genomics Unit (UGBio) performs researches on genomics and transcriptomics focusing mainly on the study on animals that produce venoms and biologically active molecules. Nucleic acid sequencing techniques, from those develop by Gilbert and Sanger in 1977 to the technologies called NGS (Next Generation Sequencing), are applied for this goal.
After the implantation of CeTICS, supported by FAPESP, a facility lab was established enclosing adequate equipment for this kind of analysis. A technician and researcher team with expertise in molecular biology techniques, DNA sequencing and bioinformatics analysis operates this lab in an integrative way. This platform was conceived not only to support the execution of the current projects of CeTICS but also to foster the development of new projects in Butantan Institute and in other research institutions.
Currently, the UGBio is ready for aiding in projects and analysis that require expertise and equipment for sequencing, as illustrated below. If you have interest in using our structure, please contact us by this email: ugbio@butantan.gov.br.
